The Tech Museum of Innovation’s most ambitious exhibition ever is something you’ll find only in Silicon Valley. Body Worlds Decoded, presented by Ann and John Doerr, is a one-of-a-kind augmented reality system alongside the plastinated human bodies that have been awing audiences around the world.

“This is (…) the best way to experience the magic and mysteries of the human body in the world, period,” said John Doerr, the visionary venture capitalist who has helped guide some of tech’s most iconic companies, including Amazon and Google. John and Ann Doerr made a $5 million contribution to support the exhibition.

The Tech developed a custom AR system called Iris for Body Worlds Decoded, enabling a view of human anatomy like no other. See a heart beat in front of you. Feel microscopic as you float through a field of blood cells. Understand the intricate features of a human eye as you step inside a giant eyeball.

“There still is so little known about the human body,” said Tim Ritchie, president and CEO of The Tech. “The ability of augmented reality to inspire the next generation about medicine and physiology—and just to understand the body—is very powerful.”

WHAT YOU’LL SEE

Body Worlds Decoded features eight full-body plastinates and more than 60 anatomical specimens from the world-famous Gunther von Hagens’ Institute for Plastination, the creator of the initial Body Worlds series of exhibitions. In addition, you’ll explore 3D organs and systems using the Iris AR platform.

The exhibition also includes the following interactive exhibits:
Inside Anatomy: Explore various body systems through interactive touch-screens.
Visualize You: See a lively depiction of your skeleton, muscles and nervous system in a Kinect-based full-body visualization.
Digital Anatomy Table: View a live presentation at a 3D virtual dissection table.
The Drawing Board: Pick up a pencil and sketch your own anatomy-inspired design.
Art and Anatomy: An installation features art inspired by the wonder and mystery of the human body.

Body Worlds Decoded is included with general admission and will remain at the museum permanently. The Tech is located at 201 S. Market St., San Jose. Call 408-294-8324 or visit thetech.org for more information.
