Halfway between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay lies Año Nuevo State Park, the world’s largest on-shore elephant seal rookery where thousands of northern elephant seals come ashore each winter to colonize the sand dunes and carry out their annual breeding cycle.
Often located in scenic settings and with a storied past, lighthouses seems to retain an eternal fascinating appeal. Here in the area, three notable lighthouses are strung out along scenic Highway 1, starting just north of Half Moon Bay and ending in Pacific Grove.
